Valentine’s Day in Brazil is a day to appreciate romantic love as well as close friendships. However, because it falls around Brazil Carnival, Brazilians celebrate the day of love on June 12th. On Dia dos Namorados, the celebration revolves around St. Anthony, the patron saint of matchmaking and marriages. In one tradition, single women write down the name of a man they are interested in. The women then exchange the paper with one another and try to figure out whom each woman will marry.
