June 6, 1944 – D-DAY

On June 6, 1944, after months of planning, Allied forces launched an amphibious attack along the German-occupied beaches in Normandy, France. Code named Operation Neptune, the landing phase of Operation Overload, this was the largest seaborne invasion in history and launched the Battle of Normandy. Canadian troops seized Juno Beach, an Allied code name for a 10 km stretch of coastline, making it one of the most successful assaults carried out on D-Day.
