November 16, 1885 – Louis Riel executed

Louis Riel was a Canadian politician, a founder of Manitoba, and a Métis leader.

He led two resistance movements against the Canadian Government: the Red River Rebellion and the North-West Rebellion. He was executed by hanging on November 16, 1885 for high treason for his role in resistance to Canadian encroachment on Métis lands.
