October 15, 1989 – Gretzky becomes the all-time scoring leader

On October 15, 1989, Wayne Gretzky broke the NHL’s all-time career point record held by his hockey idol, Gordie Howe.

In his 11th season, Gretzky, who was playing for the Los Angeles Kings at the time, broke the record at the Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton.
