Pretty Boy Floyd
Notorious criminal “Pretty Boy” Floyd was involved in over 30 bank robberies and perhaps as many as 20 murders. A folkloric hero to some, he became “Public Enemy #1” after John Dillinger was shot. Although involved in several shootouts with police, some in which police officers or his accomplices were killed, he always managed to escape – even with $25,000 bounty on his head. A gangster “Robin-Hood” figure, when he returned to his hometown he would buy food and clothes for many of the poverty-stricken residents. Whenever he robbed banks in the area, the first thing he did was tear up all the mortgages he could find, an act that endeared him to many of the locals who were on the verge of losing their homes, farms and businesses to the banks.
