Since the announcement of Golden Globe® Award-Winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ involvement in Vikings, there has been a massive amount of speculation around which character he will be portraying. Now we finally know who he will be in the show, and that’s a bishop named Heahmund.
According to historical records, Heahmund was consecrated as Bishop of Sherbourne between 867-868. This may be hinting at a run-in with the sons of Ragnar as they seek revenge for their father, or even seek to continue fighting against the English forces.
It’ll be interesting to see a new and dynamic character added to Vikings, and with an actor like Rhys Meyers, it’s sure to be a strong character. Having a lot of experience in period dramas, he’s definitely not a newcomer to the thrill of battle.
In anticipation of season 5, watch Jonathan Rhys Meyers’ appearance in the Season 4 finale on Wednesday, February 1 at 9 E/P.
