Boomtown of movies, oil and cars, Los Angeles has always lived in the fast lane. Angelenos dumped their Trash into the river, the studios trashed film stock and movie sets in the desert – and no one dreamt what horrors the future might bring. Today, the LA River is paved over, the homeless live in shacks built from Trash, and plastic garbage is taking over the Pacific Ocean. But the City of Angels is cleaning up, converting sewage into sludge and burying it a mile deep beneath LA harbor. Road Kill squads clean the streets. Surfers recycle surfboards. Almost everyone is dreaming of a green future.
